THE DARKSIDE
NEW PLAYER TUTORIAL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INTRODUCTION
The Darkside offers ladder matches and
tournaments. The Darkside Staff advises all new players to read through this
guide to ensure that they understand the rules of Cases/MyLeagues
AND the rules for The Darkside. This guide seems long, but you can always come back to
this page and refer to the information. You can also use the
links throughout the Guide to reference certain things. This
guide was written for new members joining The Darkside....
WHAT IS A LADDER?
Case's Ladder has one of the simplest ranking
systems ever used for competitive play. We call it a "Ladder"
because each member holds a unique rank or "rung" that represents
their standings among other members. The highest-ranked member
holds the #1 Ladder position; someone ranked #2 is ranked below
the #1 member. The goal is to "climb" the Ladder all the way to
the top!
When you first join you are placed in an
"unranked" category on the Ladder, and you become "ranked" after
winning your first Ladder match. When you defeat a higher-ranked
member, you move up in rank half the distance between their rank
and your own. For example, if you are ranked #50 and you defeat
the #1-ranked member, then your new rank would be #25. Your rank
on the Ladder does not go down if you lose a match unless your
opponent is ranked DIRECTLY below you. When members ranked below
you are victorious against members ranked above you, it's
possible the member will jump over you in rank and you will move
down one rung.
SIGNING UP
To start off with, on the main page either click
on the button marked "Register for League" or the link "Free Sign Up" in the left hand column. There will be four sections for you to fill out. Each
section is very short and informal. This is what each one looks
like..........
STEP 1 - LADDER NAME & PASSWORD
Your ladder name must match your Pogo ID. It is
also against The Darkside's and Case's policy to give out your
password to anyone.
Step 2- Email Address
Enter an active e-mail address that you check
often. This is so The Darkside Staff can contact you if needed.
TOC and League newsletters are also sent here. Please remember to
keep a current Email address on your account.
Step 3- Click The Boxes
As you become an active Darkside member,
you will realize that LadderBux are a necessary thing to have in
order to continue playing. Although you can still play
tournaments and ladder matches without them, it is highly
suggested that you obtain as many as possible when signing up.
After collecting a significant amount you can earn rewards and
prizes. We ask that when signing up, you remember to click all
the boxes when prompted. This gives you close to 300 bux to
start.
Step 4- Account Activation
After checking off the boxes and ensuring you
get Maximum Bux, you are taken to the Account Activation
Screen
Step 4a - Activation Code
You will receive an Email with a 3 digit Account
Activation Code. You NEED this code before you can play in
Tourneys or Ladder Matches. If you do not receive this activation
key, there is no need to worry. Just contact a Darkside
Admin and tell them that you need your activation
key.
Step 4b - Entering Code
As you can see from the Email, I entered the
Activation key of "435" in the box that says Account Activation
Key....
Step 4c - Account Activation
You then click "Complete" and you see this
screen. Now your account is active, legal and you are ready to
play!!!!!
Side
Note: Cases/My Leagues is a business and they profit by
selling Premium Memberships. HOWEVER, I personally would not
recommend buying one until you are sure you want to remain with
this League. Online Leagues are not for everyone. There are rules
set by Cases AND set by
The Darkside that must be adhered to.
Important - You are only allowed to have one accouunt per person. All
multiple accounts will be kicked from the ladder, along with the
statistics that you have worked hard to obtain.
How to Play
On The Darkside ladder, tournament
directors (TD's) work hard to supply the ladder with tournaments.
The tournaments are all run on Eastern Standard
Time.
Use the Tournament Calendar located about halfway down the main page,
or they are also listed on the tournaments page. If you have downloaded
the league toolbar, there is also a direct link to the tour calendar
on there. There are several ways to jump into a Darkside Tourney.
We'll go over them all now....
Jumping for a Tourney
Method 1 - Using the Tourney Calender
While at the Main Page look for the Tourney
calendar which is located about halfway down the page below the top box. This will show you all the tournaments for the day. Then
just scroll down and look for the time you need. Remember, Cases
Time is Eastern Standard Time (EST). After finding the right
tourney, click the line where it says the time and TD's Name and
it will take you to the tourney page..or you can click directly on REGISTER link.
Method 2 - Using the League Toolbar / Calendar link
If you have downloaded the league toolbar, one of the links placed on there is TOURS.
This will take you directly to the leagues daily tours. .
Click on the Tourney Calendar link
and it takes you to the Tourney
Calendar. Just find the time
and tourney you want, click it and it takes you to the Tourney
Page so you can Register.
As you can see, getting to the tourney page
is not that difficult.....
How to Register for Tournaments
Once you have reached the tourney page, you will
have the option of registering for that tournament. When using
the jump boxes that is all done for you and all you need to do is
check in. If you use the tourney calendar it takes you to the
Tourney page and allows you to do it yourself. All the methods
work just as well. Try them all and use the one you like most.
After arriving at the main tourney page click the link that says
“Register”. If using Jump boxes go right to the check
in link.
You are now on
the actual tournament page. To join this tourney, click the
'Register' link.
Then simply enter your Darkside username
and password. Select the box marked I have read over the rules
and agree to abide by these rules. Tournament Directors
require players to read the rules before joining the tournament.
If you disagree with the rules, do not join the tournament. Then
simply click the “Register” button.
There are two possible screens that will now be
displaying. This depends on if check-in was already opened or
not.
This screen will show if the TD has not opened
check-in yet.
This screen will show if the TD has already
opened check-in. At this point all you have to do is be in Pogo
Bowl > Slow > Topics > Temp Rm 162 at least 10 minutes prior to
the tourney starting.
If you still need to check-in, click the link
“Teams/Check-in” once the TD has opened
check-in.
To continue your check-in procedure, select your
name from the drop down box, enter your password and click the
“Check-in” button.
All reporting (wins/losses) will the done by the
hosting TD.
If you have any questions please contact a TD.
Good Luck and HAVE FUN!!!
