HOW THE LEAGUE GOT STARTED.

Just over three years ago, I belonged to three different leagues for a short time.  As soon as I joined my first one, I was hooked with the ranked competition and standings that is so much better than rated games.  Yet, each of those leagues had issues.  One would always start about 20 minutes late every tour.  One had a small variety of games every day but did not set tours every day at the same time.  And some days they didn’t set tours at all.   They also struggled to find enough players for a tour.  The other league only set the same 3 standard tours every day but also changed the tour times somewhat.  All three leagues were not consistent and did not use timers fairly for all players and had so much drama going on.  One of the league head admins asked me to host and sent me to the training site on my own.  I hosted about 30 days and knew immediately that it was something I enjoyed doing, but not for that league. All of that lead me to make a decision one morning to make my own league.

Unfortunately with only 30 days of hosting experience, I had no idea what I was doing or where the venture would take me.  In addition, when I started this league and up until two years ago, I worked 50 plus hours away from home each week.  So where did that silly idea take me three years later?

 Well, for one thing, we turned out to be one of the best all gin leagues on pogo.  We recently had our first live tournament and the second one is in the making.  We offer the best variety in games and game styles.  We have single eliminations, doubles, and Swiss tournaments, teams 4 times a week.  We have word scramble, trivia, tribond, crossword, bounty hunter, lots of fun contests and more.  Plus, more twisted games than I thought I could ever imagine and create.

 In the last three years we have had people come and people go.  But it is the people who stayed on and who are courteous, warm, caring, and compassionate that make this league the best on pogo.  I love it.  Thank you all for being part of this crazy league and sticking with me for three wonderful years.  You are the best.

OUR HOSTS

 Our hosts are the top of the bunch.  What do our hosts do besides run tours?  Most of them spend money every month to keep their premium memberships active to give all the members extra bux in their tours or to gift them when members are running low.  Some work one or more jobs outside the home as well.  They all spend countless hours preparing and setting tours.  Especially time consuming are the word game and bounty hunter tours.  And they are just busy being all out generous and stupendous.  They all excel in patience and kindness and we are extremely fortunate to have them with us.  Starting next month you will have a chance to read a little something about a host in our host spotlight that will be included in each newsletter.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT & MEMORABLE MOMENTS

We are also lucky to have had a lot of memorable moments on this league.  But none has touched my heart as much as the compassion that one man has always shown for the people on this league.  Many of you do not even know him, as he does not play often any more like he used to.  You may see him every now and then and even think he is new.  But unless you were here long ago, you would never know or appreciate him the way some of us do.

Therefore, “the man of the hour and the season,” and the man who deserves this accolade is a true humanitarian and gentleman.  We know him by his screen name dquixot3.

.

Dquixot3 joined us on March 19, 2009, just around three months after I started this league.  He started out as a premium member and always helped out members with bux and donated to tour winners to help our hosts out.  He is an excellent card player and terrific humanitarian and gentleman.  During late night tours you could always catch him in a wonderful conversation that included Latin and philosophy.  Then just about eight months after the league started, a tragedy struck another wonderful member.  We learned that cpsp3 (the late Mr Craig Patton) had terminal cancer.  Cpsp3 played almost all of our tours the same as dquixot3 had and each man was formidable competition for anyone.  Both men brought great pleasure into our games and lives.

But once we learned of CP’s cancer we were all shaken up.  CP spent some time in the hospital to take treatments and when he learned of this, dquixot3 bought CP a laptop computer and shipped it to CP’s wife to take to him to use when he could.  It was only a few months later from the time CP first told us of his cancer to when he passed on Christmas Day 2009.  He didn’t get to use the laptop very much but he was thrilled when he could manage to come in the room and play a game with us.  We can never forget the wonderful gesture dquixot3 made for a stranger on this league.  A stranger who brought laughter and tears to our eyes in the short time we knew him.

Besides being so generous and considerate and helpful in so many ways, dquixot3 has done one other thing for this league that we all love.  He encouraged his wife posiesel to join us.  Thank you dquixot3 for all you are and all you have done for Nutz4Gin.  You will never be forgotten nor will the friendship you inspired in so many.

THE COMING YEAR

.

As we proceed into this year please keep in mind how much fun and enjoyment you all have with us everyday in some way.  The games are fun and interesting.  The tours are convenient.  The rules are fair.  But it is the people who make us what we are.  All the members and hosts who make Nutz4Gin the best place to be on any given day.

.

When you come to play please remember that and how much we love this league. Starting this league was one of the best ideas I ever had.  The second best was planning a Live Tournament where I could meet some of you in person.  I do hope that many of you will join our next Live Tour in June.

All of you are more than just members on a gin league.  You are Nutz4Gin extended family.  And, I am having a wonderful time with all of you.
