4Fun's TD Training Guide
The following is 4Fun's TD Training Guide. Each TD is to be trained the
same way, following the same rules and guidelines. Each Trainer is
to follow this guide for each trainee. Anyone found to be not
following this will be removed from the Training Team.
Welcome to the Trainer's Guide!
As a Trainer in 4Fun we ask that you refresh yourself on the
TD Guide often so you are able to reinforce the Guide in your
training.
If you can NOT take a new TD, please do NOT commit to do so.
You CAN offer to co-train a new TD. This involves coordinating all
the training of a new TD with a fellow trainer.
If you do commit to training a new TD, they are YOUR
responsibility. You are responsible to sit with them for
their training tournaments up to their doubles.
If you have set up a training tournament with a TD and find
that you cannot be here you should ask another trainer
to sit with them. If a trainer is not available then please
ask an Admin to sit with them. If you are unable to find
a trainer or an Admin to sit with them, then they need
to move their tournament and host it at another time.
The only time that another Trainer should be with your trainee is if:
1. They have been informed they are good to host
on their own with a Trainer in the lobby and you have
posted in the forum the ok for other Trainers
to be in lobby with the TD just in case they need assistance.
2. Sometimes the trainers and trainees times do not match
this is no ones fault and we do prefer that the Trainer
ask another Trainer to help them out with the new
Trainee if they find they have a busy week.
Our goal is to get the Trainees trained as fast as
possible and a Trainee should have their first 10
tournaments completed in no more then 3 weeks on staff.
If a TD Manager finds that a new td has been inactive
too long they will contact the Trainer and the
Trainee to find out the reason.
Please remember that as their Trainer, you decide when
the trainee is ready to move on to hosting on their
own and to the specialty training. DO NOT move someone
forward if they are not able to handle it. If a trainee
is not ready, that is fine, better to keep on
training then for a trainee to be uncomfortable hosting
what they are not ready for.
It is YOUR job to make sure these new TDs are
trained properly. Being as involved as you can in
your trainee's first tournaments does so much more than
you think. This makes the trainee feel like someone
cares, and it gives you and the training team a
much better idea of how the TD is going to do alone.
Training Your TD
- After their
application is approved, each TD is invited to
the TD forum. They are also give the link for the TD Guide
to read over. Before any training can begin, make sure that
your trainee is indeed in the forum. If they did not
receive an invite for the forum, please alert a TD Manager
so that the TD Manager can fix this problem.
Have your trainee
add all Admin and TD Trainers to their messenger.
A good idea to suggest to them would be to make groups on
their messenger for the different staff areas
(ex. Admin, HTD, TD, Members). It is extremely recommended
that they add ALL staff to messenger since this is how we
communicate and if your trainee ever needs help, always easier
to just click their ID then having to search them out.
While they are doing this, advise them to save all the sites
at the bottom of the TD Guide to their favorites area. The
only ones they do not need to save are those that deal with
downloading spam/screenshot programs.
Verify that they
have a spam program (shortkeys, keytext, etc). After that
is verified then have your trainee go into a lobby. It is
preferable at this point to use an International lobby
where you will not disturb anyone. Help them spam an
upcoming tournament in the lobby. Be sure they know they
can spam several tournaments at a time, but to know their
limits and not get banned while doing so. After that is
done, take them to a table and have them spam tournament
rules with time. If there are any problems with any of these
steps, find out how to fix. Do not move on to next step
until this one is all settled.
Codes for Shortkeys
While in the
International lobby, have your trainee bring in a second ID.
The second ID should be close enough to their original ID
that the members will be able to easily recognize them.
If a trainee has problems doing this, they may need to have
two different web browsers. Most common browsers are
Firefox and Internet Explorer.
For most trainees, the
second ID they choose to make and bring in will have a
provisional rating. Yahoo does not allow most provisional IDs
to spam correctly so assist your trainee in getting their ID
off provisional status. To do this, start a game with them,
after several cards are drawn FF or have your trainee FF. Do
this until your trianee has 20 games in. The now rated ID needs
to leave lobby and come back before it can spam correctly.
Next step includes
making sure your trainee can take a screenshot. There are a
few screenshot programs out there, but they can also use the
Print Screen key with Paint program. Have your trainee take
a screenshot of the International lobby you are both in that
shows their lobby spam as well as that they have two IDs
in that lobby. The screenshot should then be sent into the TD
forum so that TD Managers can verify everything leading up
to this point. Also go over what to do when there is a
problem in the lobby. This includes having the screenshots
and all information sent in.
Now that you have done
the initial set up, next step is to go over
the TD Guide. Your trainee should already have the link for the
TD Guide and have read it over. It is YOUR
REPSONSIBILITY to go over the TD Guide with
them from top to bottom even though they may have already read
it over. After you are done, ask them if they
have any questions. If they do not, then give them the quiz on
the TD Guide. You are provided with the Questions.
Post the questions to your trainee in messenger. Hopefully they
answer everything correctly. If they do not, go over with them
after the quiz any that they missed and what the correct answer
would be as well as where to find it in the guide. Link for the
quiz is below.
TD Guide Quiz
It is now time to get
your trainee to set up their first tournament. So go to your
HTD menu and change their TD Status from
IN TRAINING to
ACTIVE.
Choose a date and time that is good for both of you. As a
staff member you already know how to set up a tournament, but
make sure that your trainee understands as well. Before your
trainee starts to spam, check over their tournament page for
all pertinent information including: Correct Format (1vs1),
Game Name in the Game Format, TR in the Game Format, Game
Room is listed correctly, Game is listed as Canasta, Correct
Rules on Rules Page, and that there are no color conflicts.
There is no set entry fee
for their first few tournaments
If your trainee's tournament
does not fill, he/she will need to delete it and try again
another time. This is the same for all training tournaments,
including the specials later on.
If you wish to have your trainee preset and host a training
tournament on Race Day it has to be marked "TR", must follow
Race Day rules, and cannot be opened for check-in until it
is almost time to run the tournament.
If your trainee does
well, move on to next step, if they need more singles training,
then make a few more tournaments remembering to only do them
one at a time. They need to have done every part of this
tournament correctly including all spams and pairs set up in
order to move on to the next step.
If you are training a
returning staff member, you are only required to do this
first tournament with them while sitting at tables. After
that you can release them to host on their own until they
have 10 tournaments completed. They are able to host 3
tournaments at a time even while in their first 10, however
they do not require having a TD Trainer or Admin in the
lobby with them. They are not able to host and play at the
same time until after their 10 are complete.
Now it's time to do
a doubles tournament. Before having your trainee set up a
doubles tournament, do the small refresher quiz on doubles
provided below. If they pass the quiz than proceed with
having them set up a doubles tournament.
Doubles Refresher Quiz
Since your trainee
now has both a singles and doubles tournament done, walk them
through setting up a preset rules page. They are not required
to use these, but it does help in getting tournaments up
faster.
Now that you have a
preset rules page, assist them in how to use the Preset
Settings for making a tournament. This will also help them make
tournaments faster. Again, they are not required to use these,
but they do help. There are no limits to how many they
can make, but have them keep it simple to something like a
singles, a doubles, race day singles, and a race day doubles.
They can choose later on to add more if they wish or need
them, but this will give them the initial set up and
ability to make tournaments faster.
You have now completed
the basics of training with your trainee. If you feel your
trainee is ready, go ahead and release them to host on their
own with a TD Trainer or Admin in the lobby with them until
they have completed their first 10 tournaments. You can now
inform your trainee that the rest of their tournaments do not
need to be marked "TR".
After they have
completed their first 10, they will be able to host freely
on their own until they have 20 tournaments completed. This
includes hosting more than one tournament at a time. They are
also free to play in
ONE
tournament while hosting. If they wish to play in their own
tournaments, they need to request this permission from a TD
Manager. All they have to do is send an email to any TD
Manager and they will get back with them ASAP. After they
have 20 tournaments done you will then start on their
specials.
Once your trainee has completed 20
tournaments you begin their specials training. First special to train them on
is Double Eliminations. Send them the guide and make sure to go over it thoroughly with
your trainee. You must do at least two DE's with your trainee before they can move on to the next special.
One of the DE's must be a Crazy DE (different game for Top Bracket, different game for Bottom Bracket, and a
seperate game for Junction/Finals).
Your trainee must also be proficient at running a DE before moving on.
A returning staff member only needs to do the Crazy Double Elimination
so long as they do it properly
Double Elimination Quiz
Next special is Swiss tournaments. You will
need to do a Regular Swiss and a True Swiss with your trainee. The true swiss needs
to be made as a Crazy Swiss (different game for each round). Send
them the guide and make sure to go over it thoroughly with your trainee. You must do both
swiss's with your trainee before they can move on to the next special.
Your trainee must also be proficient at running a Swiss before moving on.
A returning staff member only needs to do the Crazy True Swiss
so long as they do it properly
Swiss Quiz
At this time, please send a quick note to the Trainers Forum
stating that your Trainee has completed the initial training. At this time your Trainee will be
promoted to a TEMPORARY HTD which will last 3 months. This means that he/she can cover tournaments.
We ask that you go over covering tournaments and the HTD menu with your trainee.
If your trainee does not want this please say so in the trainers
forum!!!
Final special is Multi's. As this is the most
involved special, we ask that you be especially thorough in going over the guide and all
the information pertaining to running a Multi. As your trainee is now a temporary HTD, he/she
will need to run a 2x2 within 3 months of becoming a temporary HTD to remain a HTD and join the SE group.
If the training group is desired, you will need to train him/her on a 3x3 as well with at least one of the
games being a doubles. If the 2x2 multi is not completed, then he/she will be returned to TD status at the end
of the 3 month period.
A returning staff member follows same training as new staff in Multi training
Multi Quiz
Now that your trainee has completed training, you
are still considered their trainer for the duration they are on staff. Please send them the
link for the HTD Interview. As well if there are ever any problems with your trainee, you
will be contacted first to assist in fixing the problem. Your trainee should always know
that they can come to you for any assistance.
